Hmmm, Nabil. Very impressive. However, you seem to contradict yourself (not your research – God forbid I should question that!), saying "I wondered how this guy could have a PhD and not be able to explain his own ideas with out the help of other writers." Isn't that exactly what we do in this project? Read criticism, mold it all together, and somehow spit out a paper that has a little bit of us and a lot a bit of all the criticism that we read? These books have been read so many times over that it is nearly impossible for high school students - AP students that we may be :) - to come up with a brand spanking new idea. If that's your intention, good luck :D

Bil, this brought a tear to my eye. Having not known Zach, I feel as though I am not right to feel pain for him and for our school as a whole. But I do, and going to that funeral was probably the hardest experience I have ever faced. He was such a great person, this I learned from all of his friends and family's stories at the Celebration of his life. What you wrote was really touching.

It's so hard to see someone die young. It peels the scales from your eyes and you can see that life isn't permanent. No one lasts forever but the death of a child is perverse. It violates all the laws of nature. Death cuts us loose from what we thought about life, and love and luck, good and bad.

I always go back to the words of writers I've always depended . People smarter than I am express it better.

Funeral Blues

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He is Dead.
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

    -- W.H. Auden

Peace,

You're a little focused on declaring your sexual preference. Maybe its not Machiavelli's Prince you're thinking about but Prince. http://blog.drjays.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/prince-in-musicology-promo-pic-ii.jpg

Machiavelli isn't alone in his ideas about the lack of moral but be careful when you apply it beyond simpkle politics. Why does Palin run? She'll never have absolute power of the kind described in The Prince, so what's her motivation, or anyone else's' for that matter.

Does it come from ego? Why do you aspire to play soccer at the highest level while others shrink away from competition? It comes down to what's important to you and that usually is defined by your ethics and morality.

As to Ms Palin's failures with her daughter. Moral absolutes are very hard to apply to squishy things like teenagers. There are a lot more factors to consider.

As an antidote to Machiavelli you might try reading Kant or Neibuhr, President Obama sights his book ,The Irony of American History, as a major influence.

Keep Up the Good Work.

Peace,

Good Lesson Bil. Also it's hard to read and eat soup at the same time. On another topic your own lifestyle preferences have little to do with your reading material. I think you owe more to your fashion sense.

"Come you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts..."
